Wild Farm Backpackers - Dorm Room - Wilderness

The Wild Farm Backpackers is located along the picturesque Garden Route, close to the village of Wilderness. It is situated on the old farm Uitsig. The Wild Farm Backpackers is an old milk dairy farm that has been converted into accommodation for backpackers. A variety of rooms are available to visitors, and consist of dorm rooms, log rooms, double rooms and a camping area. All the rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a large open plan kitchen and TV lounge and outside there is a braai area and a shaded stoep (verandah) overlooking the Indian ocean surf. Reception is open from 8am – 12pm and 13pm – 7pm. If you are unable to arrive between these hours, please make prior arrangements.

Day Trips and Activities.
The Wild Farm Hiking Trail:
Its free!. The trail runs from the Wild Farm and meanders through the valley along the forest edge to a view point where you can sit and relax. Choose your route back or stroll a bit further to where you’ll find another view point in the north. Here you will get to see the valleys of Wilderness. Head back and enjoy an awesome sunset on the restaurant and bar deck.
Mountain Bike Hire:
We have mountain bikes that you can hire from us! There are various routes to take from the Wild Farm in Wilderness from easy to strenuous, half day to full day.
Tandem Paragliding with Cloudbase Paragliding:
Let us book your jump with a tandem master. Your flight will last for an awesome twenty minutes. Wilderness is one of the most scenic places on the Garden Route to do this activity from. Cloudbase has been in the business for years.
The Woodville Big Tree Tour:
Climb into our groovy Backpacker’s Bus for an awesome ride through the rural areas of Wilderness. First stop is the Langvlei Bird hide to watch some of the local water birds. Then off to the Woodville Big Tree, a gigantic Old Outeniqua Yellowwood Tree + – 800 years old, and an awesome short hike through the forest. Our final destination for the day is the Map of Africa.
Map of Africa Mountain Bike Trail:
Take the road north from the Wild Farm to Whites road and see the glorious hills of Wilderness and the Outeniqua Mountains. Carry on and turn left down to the beautiful Map of Africa. This is an easy to medium ride perfect for early morning or late afternoon, about 2 hours.
Old George Knysna Road Bike Trail:
This is a full day ride. Again take the road north to Whites Road, pull in at Map of Africa on the way. Carry on to the Old George-Knysna road where you cross a beautiful old pass and bridge and climb the hill to the top. Turn right to Wilderness or carry on left to the Woodville Big Tree. Then turn your way home coming down the hill from Hoekwil, and meander along the hills on a flat road back to Wilderness before you head back to Wild Farm on Whites Road. 3 – 5 Hours, depending on route and pace you take.
Surfing and Surf Board Hire:
A range of surf boards for hire from beginner’s boards to more experienced riding boards. Play on the Wilderness beach or go to Victoria Bay, a 15 min drive away along the coast.
The Half Collared Kingfisher Trail in The Wilderness National Park:
The trail runs along the Touw River’s banks to the top where you’ll discover some waterfalls and rock pools to swim in and have a picnic. See grand old trees like the Outeniqua Yellow Wood Tree, and many varieties of birds including the Knysna Turaco. The trail is about 7km long return and takes about 3 hours to complete depending on how long you stay at the picnic area and rock pools. There is an entrance fee to be paid to the Wilderness National Park.
Canoeing in the Wilderness National Park with Eden Adventures:
We will book your canoe to glide along the Touw River on a peaceful, fun filled adventure. Look out for the many types of water birds in the Wilderness National park and some forest birds along the forest edge. Canoe to the end of the river where you will embark on the Half Collared Kingfisher trail that will lead you the rock pools and waterfall area where you can have a picnic and a swim. Meander back through the forest trail and relax for the last part of the canoeing.
Horse-riding with Perdepoort Horse Trails:
Perdepoort Horse Trails is located next to the Outeniqua Mountains in Wilderness Heights. The horse trails run through the indigenous forest on the farm and traverses small rivers and creeks. All levels of riders are welcome as there are different types of routes available, from beginners to experienced. The trails normally run for 2 to 2 and a half hours.
